A Word from Ms. Dennis     As the school counselor I have classroom time with all grade levels for 30 minutes a week. I also meet with students on an individual basis as needed, and in small groups.It is my belief that a good education teaches us more than what we learn in books. Therefore, in my class we cover the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Citizenship, Caring.  I teach with choices, this allows room for mistakes in our learning.  For example, If you have a student who has never made a desicion for themself how do you know they are going to be able to make choices without you around? If we give them choices now then when they are adults we know what kind of choices they are capable of making. I have many tapes and information on this topic called LOVE and LOGIC this also helps with control issues. When you think about it a child that is struggling with control is only asking to be able to make some choices for themselves. I am available for students if they are going through a difficult time at home, school or life in general. Different people see difficult times, well , differently. And I am here to talk if they need someone to listen to them during this time. If your family is experiencing anything out of the ordinary, please let me know. I am only able to help if I am aware of a situation, and even then I can only help if the student wants to be helped. If there is anything I can help you or your family with please let me know and I will see what I can do. If at any time your student wishes to see me or is referred to talk with me. I will notify you after I speak with the student if there is a concern. I tell all my students that I will call you if it is a situation where you need to be called. Telephone calls are placed to parents only when neccessary. Similarly parents are encouraged to conatact the counselor with any questions or concerns.
